More Pretrials Action

So Team Morris has made it through and has qualified out of the A Event with a convincing win over Gushue last night. As much as I wanted to see Gushue win this game, I am not surprised that Team Morris is through. After all, Team Morris is a good squad. Jim Cotter is an excellent rock chucker and he is, by now, a seasoned veteran on the circuit. Can they hang on...well, we'll see but if they do get through to the Roar of the Rings, it should surprise no one. As for Gushue, well, he has a tougher road now...he will have to meet Team Jacobs at 2 pm today to try to qualify out of the B Event and the winner of that match up will play the winner of Steve Laycock and Greg Balsdon in the B Event Qualifier final. The losers are not out but will get on an even tougher road in the C Event.

On the women's side, Krista McCarville is out. However, Tracy Horgan is still in there. With a loss to Rene Sonnenburg last night, Horgan will play against Laura Crocker in the C Event. Any more losses now and that will spell the end of this squad's Olympic hopes. It was Kelly Scott who qualified through the A side with a win over Sonnenburg. Sonnenburg will play Cathy Auld in the B Qualifier final today. In the C side, there are still several teams left, like Cheryl Bernard, Valerie Sweeting, Crystal Webster and Shannon Kleibrink. Once again, any more losses for either of these squads will end their hopes for a spot in the Roar.

Today will be a big day in this tournament. For some, hopes will still be alive...for others, an end to Olympic hopes. For some, perhaps this is the last Olympic try while others will begin to look ahead to the next Olympics in 2018. But most, if not all, will be looking ahead to the Brier and the Scotties and that is something that is always worth looking forward to.

Rock On!
